Political party Lelo has nominated former MP of the ruling Georgian Dream party Levan Koberidze in Vake constituency of Tbilisi which was a surprise for Elene Khoshtaria – the joint opposition candidate in the constituency in the October parliamentary elections.

It was a surprise for me. However, the step will not shade my attitude to Lelo as I think that Lelo’s success is important for the opposition bloc and future diversity in governance,” Khoshtaria wrote on her Facebook
Lelo, which was founded by co-founders of TBC Bank Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze, says that only Koberidze is capable of defeating the ruling party candidate in the constituency. The party has nominated 25 of 30 majoritarian candidates.

The elections in the autumn will be held in a different manner, with 120 MPs elected per the party-list based electoral system and the remaining 30 per the majoritarian electoral model.
