The further, the more evidence that the main initiators of Russia's aggression against Georgia in 2008 were Armenian nationalists. In fact, the Kremlin's chief propagandist Margarita Simonyan admitted this on the 12th anniversary of Russian aggression.
We quote verbatim the post on Twitter by Margarita Simonyan dated 08/08/2020:
“Indecision is our main problem.
Indecision does not paint a country, a man, or geopolitics.
As a classic, we end up with both war and shame.
Not taking Tbilisi, not putting a fat point on Donbas, have we avoided sanctions? Have you become the favorites of the world community?
Not that the hedgehog near Moscow, but even the Pitsunda lizard already understands - we will get wet, no matter what we do. They don't even bother to look for any intelligible reason.
Therefore, we must do what we need. Is always.
And here comes the main unanswered question.
What do we need?"
Simonyan's mention of the “Pitsunda lizard” is very “significant” here. Lizards in Abkhazia in Pitsunda (the ancient Georgian city of Bichvinta) were abandoned by Abkhaz separatists and Armenian militants and the Russian army behind them. But practically the entire Georgian population in Pitsunda, Gagra, and Sukhumi was destroyed or expelled from their homes. Especially atrocities were committed by Simonyan's fellow tribesmen from the Baghramyan battalion. And they did not show any "indecision" in the destruction of their Georgian neighbors.
What is Simonyan hinting at with these words about the "Pitsunda lizard", regretting that in August 2008 Russian troops did not take Tbilisi? Does he regret that the same genocide against the Georgian population as in Pitsunda and Sukhumi was not arranged in Tbilisi? Then would the dream of Armenian nationalists come true and Tbilisi would become an “Armenian city”?
However, judging by the tone of Margarita Simonyan's publication, she is not averse to the Russian invaders “correcting the mistake” and still taking Tbilisi in the interests of “allies” and “long-suffering people”. Moreover, the reason for this may well be the incitement of the "big war" in the Caucasus, which is provoked by same Armenia (as in the recent attack of Armenian troops on Azerbaijan in the Tovuz region).
One should not think that criticizing the current Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, Margarita Simonyan is at least somewhat less of an Armenian nationalist and less than he wants foreign lands to join "Great Armenia". The only difference between them is that Simonyan believes that Armenia should "collect land" under the patronage of Russia, while Pashinyan wants to do this under the patronage of the West. However, their aggressive plans towards the neighbors of the Republic of Armenia, including towards Georgia, are likely to be the same.
