According to Chairman of European Georgia, Davit Bakradze, the amendment in the US Defence Authorization Act brings into question the US financial assistance for Georgia.
As Bakradze stated, it's another reason why the voters shouldn't reelect the current government at the October elections.
"It's the second time in one month when the financial assistance intended for Georgian people is being questioned due to the Georgian government's activities. What's important is that it isn't an individual Congressman's statement, comment or a letter, but a document that is binding and is adopted by the vote of the whole House of Representatives. This is an official document of Congress. This is the second time when Georgian government's and Georgian Dream's actions bring financial assistance into question. This is another reason why we should tell "no" to current government at the October elections - in order for the financial assistance intended for Georgian people not to be a hostage of Georgian Dream's and its leaders' pro-Russian policy. The US-Georgian relations should be developing without any questions, conditions and assessments", - stated Bakradze.
Bakradze also noted that the amendment is a grave warning for the Georgian government.
"This is a warning to the government and support for the opposition, for every individual who believes that democratic elections should be held in Georgia. The fact that 3 months before the election, the government receives such warning is naturally and certainly an indicator of the bad reputation which Georgian Dream has in the US Congress", - stressed Bakradze.
