Who is trying to make a split in the friendship between Georgia and Azerbaijan?

25.07.20 9:34

It seems that certain forces are trying to make sure that Georgia is completely alone without friends and allies.  Taking into account the fact that 20% of the territory of Georgia is already occupied and there is no assistance from Europe and the West in de-occupation of Georgian lands, this situation means: complete defenselessness of the Georgian state against external and internal threats.

Georgia without friends and allies can be finally destroyed as a state.  All the more that now the hearth of separatism in Samtskhe-Javkheti is about to explode.  At that, the most is done in order to quarrel Georgia with Azerbaijan and provocations are organized in a flat place.

Husein Samedzadeh writes about this in particular on Facebook.( https://www.facebook.com/groups/1660301337568716/permalink/2600249170240590/ ). Here are excerpts from his post about attempts of certain forces to quarrel between Georgia and Azerbaijan with our comments.

We remind that two years ago, tourists and pilgrims who visited David Gareji knew nothing about the fact that part of the monastery complex is located on Azerbaijani territory.

Huseyn Samedzade writes that "out of 20 churches of the complex only 2 are in Azerbaijan.  After the establishment of Soviet power in Azerbaijan and Georgia, Joseph Jugashvili-Stalin himself calculated and drew the borders between these Soviet republics, with these very borders Azerbaijan and Georgia were accepted by the UN in 1992".

To question this border of Georgia means to automatically question its belonging to Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region, which  Georgia's enemiesalways dream about.

But there were no obstacles for Azerbaijani border guards to visit monasteries, prayers and pilgrimages.  This cannot be compared with how, for example, Georgian journalists who tried to visit the Khujabi monastery, captured by the Armenian side through the movement of borders, were shot at on the Georgian-Armenian border.  And this situation undoubtedly remained to this day, if the provocateurs had not deliberately launched a campaign about changing the border as if someone had prevented the Georgian side from coming to David Gareji.

Next, Gusein Samezadeh provides interesting information:

"In mid-2019, Catholicos of the Georgian Orthodox Church Patriarch Ilia II, a respected clergyman in Azerbaijan, distinguished for his wisdom and good memory, was scheduled to pay an official visit to Azerbaijan.

"We thank God for not leaving us without friends.  Georgia has endured a lot of trials, of course, there will still be trials, Azerbaijan and its people have always been with us in these trials.  As long as a person is on earth, he will always need a friend.  We should remember that the Lord will never leave Georgia without faithful friends, because Georgia is a destiny and he will always be faithful to friendship.

With such good words Ilia II intended to start a visit to a friendly country where a large Georgian community lives.

Unexpectedly, the question of 2 churches of the David Gareji Temple Complex was raised in the Georgian media.

"Give back the churches together with the territories of Georgia, you Muslims, we are Christians, you do not need them" (although more than 200 thousand Orthodox are citizens of Azerbaijan - Russians, Ukrainians, Georgians, Udians and for them David Gareji is also a shrine!)
At the same time, the provocateurs through irresponsible politicians managed to provoke even President Salome Zurabishvili, who did not inform the Azerbaijanian side, appeared on Azerbaijanian territory with the Georgian flag, again without warning Azerbaijan.

After that, provocations in the David Gareji area began to increase.  It went as far as attempts to pull out weapons from Azerbaijan border guards.  Naturally, Azerbaijan could not ignore these provocations, especially the provocateurs started to organize bloodshed on the border.  As a result, movement across the border was temporarily suspended.

"And another sad result of provocations - the visit of Ilia II to Azerbaijan was disrupted!"

But at the same time the "attack" on the Georgian Orthodox Church intensified.  An ultimatum was demanded from it:    1. recognition of non-canonical transition of the Ukrainian Church under the authority of Greek nationalists and ecumenists from the Patriarchate of Constantinople, 2.  Loyalty to LGBT and other perverts.  3. transfer of 465 Georgian churches to the Armenian and Armenian-Catholic churches.

It is obvious that enemies of Georgian-Azerbaijan friendship and enemies of Orthodoxy are acting at the same time.

Even with regard to the vitally important supply of Azerbaijanian gas to Georgia, certain circles have tried to introduce confusion and unpredictability here as well.  Although, according to Huseyn Samedzadeh, "initially, Azerbaijan set a price of $90 for Georgia when it sold gas to Baku for $100 for its citizens.  In addition, SOCAR Georgia, a subsidiary of the company, began providing gas for free to all churches, mosques, synagogues and prayer houses, even Armenian ones.

Georgia consumes about 2 billion cubic meters of gas annually and Azerbaijan fully met these requirements with its supplies.  But in recent years, Georgia has started campaigning for the refusal of Azerbaijani gas purchases in favor of Russia, on the pretext that "Georgia lacks gas from SOCAR.  For some reason, someone had to lobby for an agreement on the supply of "Gazprom" gas to Georgia.
Here, too, there is clearly a far-reaching strategy to block the energy transit through Azerbaijan and Georgia - TANAP's Southern Gas Corridor project, which is known to compete with Gasprom in the European market.

"Gas from Azerbaijan terminal "Sangachal" through Georgia has already reached Turkey.  And certain forces want to harm this promising project.  Meanwhile, the "Southern Gas Corridor" promises Georgia multimillion-dollar dividends for transit, opening of new jobs, transformation into an energy and transport hub.  But some of the "well-wishers" do not need an economically strong and successful Georgia.

And here is the last scandal with information about the supply of weapons from Serbia to Armenia through Georgia.  This information certainly needs verification and refinement, but the fact remains.  Even if there were no supplies, they could or may have been organized in at least symbolic volumes just to drive a wedge between Georgia and Azerbaijan.  A state that has consistently supported Georgia's territorial integrity and advocated refugee return.
It is obvious who needs such provocations.  It is also obvious how dangerous they are for Georgia.  We should remind that the recent aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan in Tovuz was not motivated by anything.  It took place unexpectedly and is not connected with Karabakh.  Who will give a guarantee that the same armed aggression at one time will not suit Armenia against Georgia, in that region of Samtskhe-Javakheti.  Where Armenian nationalists separatists are already showing their strength.  Gathering three thousand crowds ostensibly for "peaceful" rallies, and in fact, for the review of forces of militant separatists.
