It is desirable that all people and all political forces put aside personal interests and act in the interests of the country when dealing with similar systemic and fundamental issues, - Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia told reporters when commenting on the statement of the EU Ambassador to Georgia, who said that the opportunity was missed to win broader political support behind the new election legislation.
According to Gakharia, the general consensus of political players is the victory of the country.
"The proportional electoral system is a systemic reform, especially in a parliamentary republic, and of course, the general consensus of political players is the victory of the country. It is not a victory of any particular political force. In fact, what we have achieved is the victory of the country. This is a guarantee of Georgia's further democratization and Euro-Atlantic integration. Everyone remembers well that the dream of our political system has been a proportional system since the 90s. Such a system is an opportunity for changing political elites along with the political culture in the country, it is an opportunity for the young people to come into politics and I am sure that each of us will feel this change in the coming years. It will not be easy. It will be quite difficult, but unequivocally, it was a necessary step for the further democratization of the country and Euro-Atlantic integration. It is desirable that all people and all political forces put aside personal interests and act in the interests of the country when dealing with similar systemic and fundamental issues," Gakharia said.
