We have delayed the payment of VAT to the tourism sector for three months and the state is ready to spend 100 million GEL to support them, but this is not enough, and everyone understands that this sector cannot be restored in three months. We have to make decisions in real-time, – Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said in the program of Imedi TV.
“I have heard many different assessments, but we have decided to fully fund the utility payments of all of our citizens who consume less than 200 kilowatts of electricity per month and less than 200 m3 of natural gas per month for the duration of three months – March, April, and May. Such a step is the fairest opportunity for social support” – PM noted.
According to Giorgi Gakharia, there is nothing ideal, there are shortcomings in all cases and work in this direction will continue.
“There is a program that allows all honest citizens to refuse this assistance if they do not need it and it will be spent on others. I’ve been contacted by people on this topic who consume up to 200 kilowatts of electricity but not required such support”, – Giorgi Gakharia said.
Prime Minister noted that the authorities will have to identify those who were left without jobs during the crisis.
“We will identify every one of our citizens who have lost their job and we will then make special arrangements to provide them with direct assistance”, Gakharia added.
