24.02.20 11:00

The Minister of Finance is expected at the sitting of the Committee on Sector Economy and Economic Policy of the Parliament of Georgia today. Ivane Machavariani was summoned by the faction "Independent MPs" to the committee.

Faction Members' Questions on the Debt Schedule of Rustavi Two, Imedi and Maestro TV Companies, Issue of Counterfeit Assets of up to GEL 100 Million as a result of Investigation Act 2019, Amendment to the Law of Georgia on Organizing Lotteries, Gambling and Gaming “Law in 2017 cigarette excise taxes related to the issue.

According to Gedevan Popkhadze, a member of the "Independent MPs" faction, the Ministry of Finance has an inconsistent financial policy, which he said the country's first financier will have to answer.

“The first three issues that we formally addressed to the Minister were related to the disappearance of 100 million VAT, the VAT on televisions and the taxation of gambling. In addition, we will definitely raise the issue of cigarette excise tax and if the format allows, we will raise other topics as well. These issues are united by one common principle: the Ministry of Finance does not have a consistent financial policy and in practice its policy directly puts people in the pocket, hurting the most vulnerable part of our society financially. In this context, in the context of the financial policy as a whole, the minister will have to answer, ”Gedevan Popkhadze said.

Unlike the faction "Independent MPs", the ruling party will have no questions to the minister. According to the Chairman of the Committee, Roman Kakulia, on February 20, during the plenary session of the Parliament, Ivane Machavariani gave comprehensive answers to all the questions.

"Mr. Minister spoke very thoroughly about all the issues that were there during the session, so I don't think we would have any questions ourselves, but whoever invited them would hopefully be able to do so," said Roman Kakulia.

The factions "National Movement" and "European Georgia" will not attend the boycott.

The session of the Committee on Sector Economy and Economic Policy will begin at 11:30.
