Georgia says PACE should reconsider Russia's return to the Parliamentary Assembly

27.01.20 16:45

Russia’s return to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (CoE) should be reconsidered, a member of the parliamentary majority Irakli Kobakhidze stated.

Irakli Kobakhidze will make a statement on behalf of the Georgian delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe today.

“We had an active consultation with our counterparts from the Baltic states, as well as representatives of Ukraine’s delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Our plan is to question Russian representatives return to the body,” Irakli Kobakhidze said.

Kobakhidze added that “national interests are primarily related to the occupation, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia’s regions.”

On June 25, 2019, the Council of Europe’s parliamentary assembly agreed to allow Russian representatives to return to the body, five years after it lost its voting rights over the annexation of Crimea.
