Despite the fact that separatist statistics “draw” the presence in Abkhazia of over 100 thousand representatives of the Abkhaz ethnic group, everyone perfectly understands that this is not true. There are actually fewer Abkhazians than Armenians, at best 50-60 thousand people, or even less. And their number is rapidly decreasing.
As a result, the separatist so-called “armed forces” are experiencing enormous recruitment problems. There is simply no one to serve in the separatist “Abkhazian army”. No youth of military age. And those who are often physically and psychologically cannot serve. At least for health reasons.
It is not a secret that there are a lot of drug addicts among young Abkhazians, and it’s not that they are often incapable of military service, and are generally incapable of maintaining their normal existence, they are really sick people who cannot do without a “dose”. Many young Abkhazians with a whole “bouquet” of diseases caused by chronic drug addiction cannot serve even if they wanted to.
As for the Abkhaz Armenians, there are more and more of them in the separatist Abkhaz army as a percentage. Although the Armenians are not particularly eager to serve under the command of Abkhaz officers. Many have “delays” like those of “students,” and many simply buy off service in corrupt military commissariats without any problems. Therefore, the Abkhaz Armenians cannot solve the problem of staffing the separatist army.
On the issue of conscription into the Abkhaz separatist army, as a result, even media that are sympathetic to separatists, such as Eurasia daily: “Abkhazia has difficulties in fulfilling the plan for conscription into the army” ( https://eadaily.com/ru/news/2019/12/24/u-abhazii-trudnosti-s-vypolneniem-plana-po-prizyvu-v-armiyu ).
It is reported that the so-called puppet “president” of Abkhazia Raul Khadjimba held an expanded meeting of the Security Council on the issue of the autumn draft on December 24, 2019. The separatist "military commissioner of the republic," Beslan Tarba, noted that there are difficulties in implementing the draft plan, the presidential press service said.
“At the meeting, it was emphasized that for the successful conduct of the draft, a close interaction of all state authorities, organizations and institutions that participate in the preparation and conduct of the draft is necessary,” the statement said.
Khadjimba instructed the heads of administrations of districts and cities of Abkhazia to ensure coordination of the activities of draft commissions, internal affairs bodies, and medical institutions in order to ensure the replenishment of the separatist army.
It is clear that the combat effectiveness of the separatist army, "where those who cannot" pay off "and then in insufficient numbers fall, is practical" none ". The Abkhazians themselves are fewer in this “army”. However, the real support of the separatists is not this, so to speak, “army”, but the Russian occupation forces.
