Tbilisi police detain two Turkish, one Georgian citizen for cybercrime

Police in Tbilisi detain two citizens of Turkey, one citizen of Georgia for cyber crime, Mamuka Chelidze, Deputy Director of the Main Division of Fight against Organized Crimes of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, said at a briefing on Thursday.

 

As Mamuka Chelidze explained, the detainees offered various services to customers using Facebook advertising of fake websites of "Bank of Georgia" and "TBC Bank".

 

“Two citizens of Turkey and one citizen of Georgia have been detained in Tbilisi for cybercrime. The detainees are charged with unauthorized computer access, illegal use of computer data, violation and theft of private communications secrets.

 

The crime committed by them envisages imprisonment from 2 to 10 years," Chelidze said.

 

Deputy Director of the Main Division of Fight against Organized Crimes noted that the detainees have caused more than GEL 200,000 worth of financial damage.

 

Police seized 3 laptops, 4 mobile phones, one personal computer, several bank plastic cards and money as physical evidence.
