We’ve registered an initiative group for moving to the majoritarian system; we attached an explanatory note as well, which will be procedurally handed over to the relevant procedural committee, - majoritarian MP Dimitri Khundadze said after the meeting with majority leaders.
Khundadze said that the mentioned initiative would allow every citizen and society to have a direct connection with the staffing of the government.
“We promised that we would try to register a legislative initiative to move to a fully majoritarian system. It will be a two-chamber model, like the American electoral system. It will allow every citizen and society to have a direct connection with the staffing of the government. We registered an initiative group for moving to the majoritarian system and an explanatory note as well, which will be procedurally handed over to the relevant procedural committee. They have one week to consider the initiative. I hope that public will see this as a positive thing,” Khudnadze said.
According to him, there were differences of opinion in the team regarding the draft law, but representatives of the initiative group are not going to change their principled attitude.
“Unfortunately, there was tension at the meeting. We could not agree about initiation and consideration of the bill, but we will not change our principled attitude and we will persuade people to support the bill”, Khundadze said.
When asked whether he had consulted with Bidzina Ivanishvili on the issue, Khudnadze said it was an internal party issue and could not elaborate on the details.
