Minister of Agriculture: 2019 to be a special year for farmers due to high quality tangerines

03.12.19 12:40

2019 will be a special year for farmers taking into consideration the high quality of the tangerine harvest, said Georgian Minister of Agriculture Levan Davitashvili earlier today.

Davitashvili said that high quality tangerines will reflect on the market price and noted that the export market is more diversified this year as new export markets have been added for Georgian tangerines.

As of today 7,900 tonnes of tangerines have already been exported since the middle of October.

This year Georgia will export tangerines to four new countries (Slovenia, Singapore, Lithuania and Qatar) with the traditional export countries of Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.

Davitashvili noted that Belarus and Central Asian countries are also interested in importing Georgian tangerines.

Levan Davitashvili said that the Government of Georgia’s Autonomous Republic of Adjara is considering subsidising tangerines if there is a need.

A coordination centre serving farmers and factories opened in Adjara on October 16, and facilitates the distribution of state subsidiaries to farmers producing tangerines.

The centre will work until February 1, 2020.
