26.11.19 17:40

Georgia’s Maritime Transport Agency reports that Georgian sailors already have the opportunity to be employed on about 800 commercial ships under Brazilian flag.

Tamar Ioseliani, head of the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia, has signed the agreement with Brazil today, which details the mutual recognition of certificates for Georgian sailors training and certification standards in both countries, Georgia and Brazil.

The memorandum was signed with the framework of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly in London.

Georgian Economy Minister Natia Turnava also participated at the assembly, where she mentioned that there is a great demand for professional Georgian sailors abroad.

Turnava said that the Batumi State Maritime Academy will soon have a branch in Georgia’s Black Sea port town of Poti by the end of 2020, which means that Georgia will have even more highly qualified and competitive sailors on the international market.
