Members of Conservative Faction leave parliamentary majority

15.11.19 13:00

Members of Conservative Faction have quit the parliamentary majority – said Zviad Dzidziguri, Chairman of Conservative Party and a vice-speaker of the Parliament of Georgia.

Dzidziguri said that Conservatives have always stood with the team when needed but claimed that the decision was made following the rejection by 40 MPs to support the proposed constitutional changes.

“Conservatives have never betrayed the principles of teamwork. But we cannot remain in the team where the decisions are made that are unjustified with political and moral viewpoint,” Dzidziguri claimed.

The constitutional changes prepared by the parliamentary majority regarding transformation onto the proportional system of elections were turned down in the parliament on November 14. Some majority MPs left their parliamentary seats and posts. The oppositional parties and Georgian public representatives turned to the street in protest.
