Georgian education funding tripled in last ten years

Funding for education in Georgia has tripled in the last 10 years, Georgian Finance Minister Ivane Matchavariani announced. 

 

He said that for 2020, about 1.9 billion GEL ($640 mln/€580 mln) has been allocated to fund education, while the entire state budget for 2020 will be 16 billion GEL ($5.4 bln/4.9 bln).

 

Matchavariani said that the share of education funding in the entire state budget increased to 11.9 per cent in 2020, while it was 8.2 per cent in 2010.

 

Matchavariani also spoke about the education infrastructure and said that more than 280 million GEL ($101.5 mln/€92.1 mln) will be spent on education infrastructure in 2020.

 

He said that a new school model system is planned to be implemented by 2020, which includes the implementation and development of new approaches and the integration of digital technologies in the learning process.

 

He said that the new school model will be implemented in more than 300 schools by 2020, in which more than 140,00 students and more than 12,000 teachers will be involved.

 

Matchavariani also said that more than 70 new schools are planned to be built in 2020, about 100 schools are going to be fully reconstructed and also more than 670 schools will be repaired.

 

He also said that the construction of the Education and Science City will be completed in Tbilisi and Batumi by 2020.
