The importance of Geneva International Discussions, the platform for discussing consequences of the 2008 Russia-Georgia war, was discussed on Monday between Tea Akhvlediani, Georgia’s State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality and Toivo Klaar, the European Union's Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in the country.

The Ministry said the conversation between the two officials also reviewed the humanitarian and human rights situation in Georgia’s Russian-occupied regions and the process of reconciliation of communities divided by the conflict.

Implementation of a policy of engagement and “human-centred, neutral-status” approaches based on needs of conflict-affected populations was also discussed.

The State Minister emphasised the importance of the EU’s “special role and involvement” in peaceful resolution of the conflict, with the sides expressing their readiness to continue the close cooperation.
