Georgia in IMF top 10 with highest unemployment decrease over 12 years

Georgia has been ranked ninth among the top 10 countries in the world with the highest percentage decrease in unemployment over the last 12 years in the World Economic Review by the International Monetary Fund.

 

The IMF estimated unemployment in Georgia would decrease by 11 percentage points and equal to 15.7 percent by 2024, compared to the levels in 2012. 

 

According to the IMF, the unemployment rate in the country was the highest in 2010, 2011 and 2012 at the level of about 27 percent.

 

The IMF said unemployment had increased in Georgia by the highest percentage point in the world in the period up to 2012. The increase in unemployment in that 12-year period exceeded 16 percentage points.
