Giorgi Kalandarishvili was nominated for the vacant position of the chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), and Maya Zaridze, Giorgi Sharabidze and Gia Tsatsashvili were nominated for the position of the CEC members.
The relevant decision was made today at the meeting of the competition commission for the selection of candidates for the chairmanship and membership of the Central Election Commission held in the Parliament.
The selection competition was announced by the Speaker of the Parliament for the three vacant positions of the chairmanship and membership of the Central Election Commission.
Giorgi Kalandarishvili submitted an application for the post of CEC chairmanship to the competition commission, Lukhum Burjaliani, Maya Zaridze, Giorgi Sharabidze and Gia Tsatsashvili submitted applications for 3 vacant positions of CEC membership.
At the meeting held today, the members of the commission listened to all the candidates, who presented their views regarding the work of the Central Election Commission.
The competition commission consisting of 9 members included representatives of non-governmental organizations and the academic sector, as well as a representative of the President of Georgia. Among them, representatives of two organizations wanted to postpone the work of the commission until the consideration of the draft law on "Transparency of foreign influence", although the commission did not share this request due to tight deadlines. Therefore, the mentioned members of the commission, Nino Chchobadze and Zaur Khalilov, did not participate in the work of the commission. The representative of the President of Georgia, Levan Shengelia, also expressed his solidarity with them.
