30.01.24 10:06

Mamuka Mdinaradze, Chairman of the Georgian Dream faction, on Monday confirmed Irakli Kobakhidze’s candidacy as the next Prime Minister and the GD’s political secretary.

The changes will be approved during the party’s congress slated for 1 February.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has resigned from his post earlier today. He also said he had accepted an offer to become Chair of the Georgian Dream.

Within two weeks, the Georgian Parliament will hold a confidence vote in the new Prime Minister and Government.

A government program and new composition of the government must be submitted to Parliament within nine days after the PM’s resignation.

Based on the recommendations of parliamentary committees and factions, the Parliamentary Bureau will schedule a vote of confidence in the composition of Georgia’s government and a government program for a parliamentary plenary session.

As per the rule, by a majority vote, Parliament gives its confidence to the PM or the government.
