26.01.24 13:00

Otar Shamugia, the Georgian Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, on Friday met Janusz Wojciechowski, the European Commissioner for Agriculture, to provide information about reforms and “unprecedented steps” taken by the Government since 2012 to develop agriculture.

We have made tangible progress in the priority areas outlined in the European Commission's analytical report published last year [...] We are ready to work to fulfil recommendations set by the Commission. The Ministry is preparing for the next steps of European integration”, Shamugia told Wojciechowski.

The Georgian Minister added a working group had already been created to coordinate the implementation of recommendations and develop an action plan.

In his turn, Wojciechowski said Georgia was “successfully” implementing the recommendations of the Commission and “making progress”, the Ministry of Agriculture said.

Georgia's accession to the European Union will be important not only for the country, but also for the [bloc] and also for the security of the whole world. We are waiting for the integration of Georgia into the EU”, he said.

Wojciechowski also welcomed reforms carried out in Georgia on its path of European integration and said the country’s obtaining of the candidate status for the bloc membership last month had been a “very important” step forward.
