We have proposed to build a new medical center of modern standards, modernly equipped, instead of the main medical building of the Republican Hospital. Today we got approval from the government and we will start the dismantling of the existing facade, as well as the tender announcement related to the construction of the new clinic, Health Minister Zurab Azarashvili said at the briefing after the government meeting.
According to the Minister's explanation, according to different conclusions prepared by 5 different independent sources, the Republican Hospital cannot meet any standards for today.
"Also, we have the latest conclusion from the National Bureau of Samkharauli, where we asked, based on the current situation, if it would be possible to rehabilitate the existing building, to spend on it and bring it to international standards. They worked together with an independent lending company, which was at the same time our consultant in the part of what international standard the new clinic should be, and according to this conclusion, it was revealed that in the case of rehabilitation of the existing clinic, in the case of all the necessary and necessary works to be carried out in the clinic, it is not cost-effective and It would be inappropriate to rehabilitate this clinic. As a result, we have proposed to leave a certain part of the building, this previous building is 2-storey, and the main medical building is what it is, to build a new, modern standard, modernly equipped medical center there, which will have 500 beds and will have all the directions and profiles that It is necessary for a multidisciplinary clinic. Also, I would like to add that a few days ago, during the strong wind, even the facade of the Republican Hospital started to collapse, the structure is quite depreciated, and here we have another additional conclusion from the National Bureau of Samkharauli, which indicates that it is urgently necessary to repair the said facade.
Accordingly, we received the approval of the government today and will start the dismantling of the existing facade, as well as the tender announcement measures related to the construction of the new clinic. This tender must be international, because international experience is important for the country, in the process of building and creating such a historical and important clinic," Azarashvili said.
