Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Thursday said the ruling Georgian Dream party had achieved an “unprecedented and uninterrupted” decade of “peace and stability” that had brought “prosperity and economic growth” to the country, in remarks at a panel discussion on the sidelines of the ongoing World Economic Forum in Davos.

Garibashvili also told panel participants Russia was continuing to occupy 20 percent of Georgia’s territory.

In 2008, we had a war, after which Russia built military bases and continues to occupy 20 percent of our territory. However, despite these security challenges, we have managed to achieve an unprecedented and uninterrupted decade of peace and stability that brought prosperity and economic growth to Georgia”, he said.

“As for the security situation in the South Caucasus, [...] you remember the occupation of our sovereign territories”, he continued.

In his comments, the Government head stressed the country had “never had such a peaceful and stable” situation since the restoration of its independence following the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
