GD Chair: No chance of success for forces opposing Georgia's state and church

16.01.24 14:53

Activities of the radical opposition, collective United National Movement directly target against the state, church and everything on which our Georgian identity stands,” said Irakli Kobakhidze, chairperson of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party.

According to the GD Chair, political forces opposing the statehood and the church will hardly succeed in the parliamentary elections.

“We should oppose such activities, and the Georgian society will do so. The verdict will be brought to them following the parliamentary elections. Those political forces, directly opposing the Georgian state, church, and our identity, will have no chance of success,” he said.

Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili wrote on Facebook that “radicals’ attack against the Church from the supposed ‘European’, ‘liberal’, or ‘Western’ pedestal not so much damages the Church but tarnishes the very idea of liberalism and the West among the public.”
