„Tourism in Chuberi has great potential. It is a wonderful valley with lakes and nature which is interesting to tourists”, - Gia Vibliani, owner of guesthouse "Tita" in Chuberi administrative unit, told InterpressNews.

The guesthouse owner and other locals talk about the tourist attraction of the valley and say that they host mostly foreign visitors while many Georgians know nothing about the beautiful valley in Mestia municipality.

Gia Vibliani, who has been in charge of the guesthouse in Nenskra Valley since 2008, talks about the scarcity of tourists. “Tita” guesthouse can accommodate up to 40 tourists and offer them three meals a day. At the moment majorly JSC “Nenskra Hydro” staff and guests stay there.

“I opened the hotel in 2008. At that time, neither the construction of the HPP was discussed nor tourism was developed. I decided to open the hotel because there was no hotel in our valley and tourism potential is great here. Tourists come, but very rarely. In my opinion, promotion is needed to get more people to know about these places,” says Gia Vibliani.

Melor Tsindeliani, owner of the guesthouse "Nenskra" which has the capacity of accommodating 20 persons, is looking forward to seeing more tourists in the valley. He says that mostly foreigners are visiting Nenskra valley and many Georgians do not even know about the amazing nature of the valley, which is located on the way to Mestia.

“We have been hosting tourists for 6-7 years. We do not have guests regularly. Tourists come from abroad: from America, Israel, Iran, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Russia. I would like to host more guests. We have to do everything that tourists need - to regulate the internal roads and to offer tourists appropriate services. Tourism has a good potential here. The number of tourists is growing and it is a great source of income,” said Melor Tsindeliani.

According to him, tourists visiting Nenskra particularly like nature. As for what makes Nenskra Valley attractive for tourists, Melor Tsindeliani says that besides beautiful views, fishing and hunting sites, hiking and horse-riding tours, the main attraction of Nenskra valley is the exceptional hospitality of local people.

“When tourists see other places in the region and come here, they say that the nature here is particularly beautiful. We offer horse-riding and hiking tours, fishing, hunting, nature and special hospitality. Georgians generally believe that the visitor is sent from the God and especially people in Svaneti and particularly in Chuberi have strong belief in this. This village has been prominent in the whole region for a long time,” said Melor Tsindeliani.

According to another local resident Shoti Tsindeliani, the main tourist destination in Nenskra Valley is Utviri pass which connects Nenskra and Nakra valleys. It is located 2750 meters above sea level. According to him, tourists can walk through medium difficulty routes to Utviri pass and see the beautiful lakes there.

In the interview with Interpressnews, Irina Petriashvili, Public Relations Officer of JSC Nenkra Hydro, talks about tourism potential of Nenskra Valley and necessity to encourage this direction. According to her, JSC Nenskra Hydro, Nenskra HPP project company, has been running an active information campaign on media and social networks since July, in order to promote tourism potential of Nenskra and Nakra Valleys.

“One of the components of our company's social responsibility is supporting the development of local tourism. This is precisely what our campaign is doing so that the people, as many as possible, can hear about the great places here and about the hospitable people who will meet them when they arrive,” said Irina Petriashvili.

For information, currently there are 13 guesthouses and up to 5 guesthouses are under construction/ renovation in Chuberi administrative unit of Mestia Municipality, which is located 80 kilometers from Zugdidi. Most owners of guesthouses offer accommodation and meals, transportation, horse riding and travel guide services. In addition, there are several small markets and 1 food corner in Chuberi.
