The  'offence' of Hay nationalists against Serbs

15.12.23 21:05

When the Hayan nationalists shout about 'Christian solidarity', for some reason their list of 'brotherly Christian nations' gets shorter from time to time. Georgians have long been excluded from this list. Although, depending on the situation, when they need something from Georgia, the Hayan nationalists can still talk about "friendship and brotherhood", in reality they do not like Georgia and Georgians, to put it mildly.

The Hayes are not only waiting for Georgia's defeat and collapse, they are doing everything to make it happen. It is enough to recall the atrocities of the Khai fighters of the Baghramyan battalion against the peaceful Georgian population in Abkhazia. The Hayan lobby in the Russian Federation not only supported separatism in the Georgian territories, but also did everything to organise the occupation of these territories and to divide the Russian and Georgian peoples.

The Russian people and Russia have already been labelled as "enemies of Armenia" by the majority of Hayan nationalists. The Russians cannot be forgiven for refusing to fight for the separatist "Artsakh" and for not wanting to conquer for "great Armenia" the foreign lands claimed by the Hayes.

Until recently, the Hayes nationalists counted the Greeks among their "Christian brothers". But the successful visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Greece, during which both sides showed their willingness to establish good neighbourly relations and to resolve existing contradictions peacefully, caused open "disappointment" in Yerevan towards the Greeks and Greece. On 12 December, a delegation led by the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia, Suren Papikyan, left for an official visit to the Republic of Cyprus, one of the aims of which was to once again bet on a new escalation of the Cyprus conflict between Greece and Turkey and to try to prevent its settlement.

If Turkey and Greece reach a compromise and settle their disputed issues, it is possible that Greek nationals will be viewed as 'traitors' by Hayan nationalists instead of 'Christian brothers'.  Similarly, the Serbs, who were once considered 'Christian brothers' by the Hayes, have been labelled as 'traitors' due to their cooperation with Azerbaijan.

Following the visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Serbia and his participation in the opening of the gas interconnector, there were several anti-Serbian comments in the Hai media and social networks. An example of such a comment was published on the telegram channel of 20th February, which was rebroadcast by Armenian Military Portal.

Baku expressed gratitude to Serbia for its support against Armenia. At its own expense, Baku carried out restoration works in Belgrade's Tashmaidan Park for $3 million, where a monument to KGB General Heydar Aliyev was erected. Additionally, Baku financed the restoration of a mosque in Belgrade, a church in Novi Sad (which includes a bust of Hajibekov), and the cultural centre of Novi Pazar. In 2011, Serbia opened its embassy in Baku.

Azerbaijani construction companies have completed infrastructure projects in Serbia. AzVirt, a family-owned firm, has constructed motorways and tunnels worth millions of dollars. For more information, visit http://azvirt.com/en/completed_projects?field_country_target_id=7.

In 2018, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic visited Baku and signed a strategic partnership agreement.

Serbia, through third countries, sold small arms and some mortar shells to Armenia. Following the fighting in July 2020, Serbian President Vucic personally apologised, acknowledging that the arms sale to Armenia was a mistake.  The head of the Serbian Interior Ministry expressed regret over the deaths of Azerbaijani servicemen as a result of the fighting in July 2020.

Boris Tadic, former Serbian President and board member of the 'Nizami' Foundation, apologised to his Baku counterparts for the fact that Serbian arms were in possession of Armenians.

Serbia has been supporting Baku in the Artsakh conflict for many years, and reciprocally, Baku supports Serbia on Kosovo at all levels. A notable example of the strategic relations between the two countries is the twinning agreement signed between the cities of Shusha (formerly Armenian Shushi) and Novi Pazar in Serbia on 17 March 2023.

In 2022, President Aliyev visited Serbia, followed by President Vucic's visit to Baku. On 10th December 2023, President Aliyev delivered a speech on the fraternal relations between the two countries during the opening of the gas interconnector. President Vucic personally greeted President Aliyev, referring to him as a friend and praising him as a democratic leader. Vucic stated that Azerbaijan is a world leader in gas production and supply, although the source of this information is unclear.

On 10 December, it was reported that a contract worth over 300 million euros had been signed for the supply of Serbian howitzers to Baku. According to Serbian sources, the contract includes the delivery of 48 units of 155 mm self-propelled howitzers Nora B52.

It is worth noting that Serbia has not recognised the 'Armenian genocide', citing 'Christian brotherhood' as a reason.

Serbs are definitively excluded from the number of "Christian brothers" among the Khayyas. And only Islamophobia has so far prevented the Hayes from recognising predominantly Muslim Kosovo as "separate" from Serbia. So who are the "Christian brothers" of the Hayes? Is it only France?

But France is by and large one of the most hostile countries to traditional Christians today. The French authorities not only emphasise their "secularism" and "laïcité", but also persecute Christian symbols. Since 2004, the country has had a law prohibiting public schools from displaying crosses or crucifixes in a visible place and from wearing clothes or attributes that would 'clearly' reveal the religious affiliation of pupils. And not just Muslim, but also Christian. And by and large, French traditions are already very far removed from Christian traditions.

There is not much "Christianity" left in Armenia. That is why all hopes of "Christian brotherhood" on the part of the Hayan nationalists are nothing more than political speculation.
