Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the Georgian Dream ruling party, commenced a four-day visit to Hungary on Tuesday for meetings with the country's top officials, as announced by the party's press office.

The scheduled discussions with Zsolt Semjén, the Deputy Prime Minister of Hungary, János Latorcai, the Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly, Judit Varga, the Chair of the Committee on European Affairs, and János Bóka, the Minister for European Union Affairs, precede the European Council's upcoming decision on whether to grant its membership candidate status to Tbilisi later this month.

The Georgian Dream authorities have characterisedHungary as a "vocal supporter" of Georgia's aspirations for integration into NATO and the European Union.

The Georgian delegation also includes Giorgi Volski, the Vice Parliament Speaker, Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the European Integration Committee in the Parliament, and Irakli Mezurnishvili, a GD MP.
