EU Conference in Madrid endorses granting candidate status to Georgia

The Conference of the European Affairs Committees of the National Parliaments of the European Union on Tuesday endorsed the granting of the bloc’s membership candidate status to Georgia.

 

The event held in Spain’s capital city of Madrid reaffirmed the importance of the enlargement policy for common European “security and welfare”, the Georgian Parliament said.

 

The Conference, attended by a Georgian parliamentary delegation, discussed migration and energy crisis, situation in Ukraine and strategic autonomy of the European Union.

 

In her comments at the event, Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament, emphasised challenges Georgia was facing, importance of its EU integration, the country's support for Ukraine and called on officials to endorse granting of the EU candidacy to the state in December.

 

Participants of the Conference gave a positive assessment to Georgia’s achievements on its European integration path, the Parliament’s press office added.
