Irakli Gharibashvili meets with Ilham Aliyev

The Prime Minister of Georgia met with the President of Azerbaijan.

 

According to the governmental administration, the meeting between Irakli Gharibashvili and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, was held in the Ganjlik government residence in Baku.

 

The head of government is attending the SPECA economic forum in Baku as an honored guest at the personal invitation of the President of Azerbaijan.

 

The meeting focused on centuries-old, good-neighborly, friendly relations between the two countries, and it was noted that Azerbaijan is one of the leading trade partners of Georgia.

 

"The issues of strategic cooperation of the countries - trade-economy, energy, transport, logistics - were discussed, as well as important projects existing between Georgia and Azerbaijan: prospects for the development of the Middle Corridor, which implies modernization of railways, expansion of ports, roads, construction and development; The construction of the East-West high-speed highway and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project, which, according to the head of government, will further strengthen the transport potential of the two countries.

 

It was noted that in the future the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway will become part of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia railway corridor. Special attention was paid to the issue of the development of a large-scale project - the Black Sea submarine cable - to supply the green energy resources of the South Caucasus to the European Union market and its special importance.

 

The parties reviewed the security issues in the world and the region. The head of the government expressed his hope that Azerbaijan will sign a peace agreement with Armenia very soon," reads the press release.
