23.11.23 11:40

A debate was held in the European Parliament regarding the killing of Georgian citizen Tamaz Ginturi by the Russian occupation forces.

European Parliamentarian Anna Fotyga requested the EU to create a list of sanctions similar to the list of Otkhozoria-Tatunashvili, which aims to sanction relevant persons for similar crimes committed against Georgian citizens.

Miriam Lexmann expressed her support for the territorial integrity of Georgia in her speech during the discussion of a resolution.

"All responsible persons should be punished, sanctions should be imposed. And Russia should stop the illegal occupation. We support the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of the Georgian people and condemn the efforts of Russia and its proxies to undermine these goals," said Miriam Lexmann.

In the text of the resolution, the MEPs condemn the murder of Tamaz Ginturi, a citizen of Georgia, and demand a thorough investigation of the case, the punishment of the perpetrators and the release of the citizens held captive by the occupation forces.

MEPs also express their support for the country's territorial integrity and sovereignty. The vote on the resolution will be held today in the European Parliament.
