Speaker meets UNICEF representative in Georgia

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili met with Jesper Moller, newly appointed representative of UNICEF in Georgia.

 

The parties underscored the productive collaboration between Georgia and UNICEF. Papuashvili expressed gratitude for the significant initiatives undertaken by UNICEF in Georgia, including activities in the occupied Abkhazia region.

 

The discussion centred on the Code of Children’s Rights recently adopted by the Parliament. Jesper Moller commended the high standards set by the Code for safeguarding children’s rights, emphasizing its critical importance, and acknowledged the crucial role played by the Parliament in overseeing the implementation of the Code.

 

The meeting discussed the future directions and priorities of cooperation. Papuashvili emphasized the importance of UNICEF actively engaging with the Parliament’s Standing Council for the Protection of Children’s Rights.
