Giorgi Vashadze: Georgian Dream wants to extend the validity of old ID cards in order to preserve the rigging mechanism during elections

16.11.23 18:00

There has been no precedent for an openly pro-Russian force to achieve a high result in the elections - Georgian Dream is so afraid of the 2024 elections that it is trying to use the manipulation mechanisms, that's why the draft law was introduced in the Parliament through Injia, - Giorgi Vashadze, the leader of Strategy Builder, said at the briefing in the Parliament.

According to him, the arguments for which they intend to return the old identity cards are absurd.

"The main question that has arisen in the society is why Georgian Dream wants to keep the old ID cards still valid, or rather to extend its validity period. Because it has no chance of winning the election and wants to preserve the rigging machinery. In 2011, I initiated the ID card project. According to this project, by 2013, all citizens of Georgia should have had an ID card and old ID cards should have been canceled. Today is the year 2023 and until then Georgian Dream has been trying to extend the term of the old, so-called "laminated" ID cards, in order to maintain the mechanisms of election manipulation and falsification.

An IRI survey was published, which unequivocally shows that Georgian Dream has no chance of winning the next elections, therefore it is trying to use some mechanisms to preserve the possibility of rigging the elections. An example of this is the old ID cards, an example of this is that the American and British consultants of the United National Movement and Strategy Builder coalition are not allowed in the country, because they are very afraid of the result. There has been no precedent for an openly pro-Russian force to achieve a high result in the elections and today Georgian Dream is an openly pro-Russian force, both within the country and outside the country, and therefore they know very well that the only way is to somehow maintain the mechanisms of falsification. Moreover, the next elections will no longer have majoritarian elections and therefore a second round, which allowed the Dream to manipulate the results of the elections. Accordingly, today, through Pridon Injia, a draft law was introduced in the Parliament, by which they want to keep the laminated ID cards in operation.

In fact, there is no country left where they want elections to be held democratically and such a document is in place. My friends, all the arguments that are being made today that they should still be kept are absurd”, said Vashadze.

According to him, the "laminated" ID cards can be forged with an ordinary printer.

“That's why my initiative was to use ID cards to close the mechanisms of forgery with old ID cards in Georgia", Vashadze said.
