The president did not have consent for the visit last year as well, but she went and the impeachment was not initiated - if her statements were in unison and there was no criticism, would she be forgiven for departing this time too? - Constitutional Court judge Manana Kobakhidze asked the chairman of Georgian Dream Irakli Kobakhidze at the hearing of the impeachment submission of the President.
Manana Kobakhidze was interested in more evidence from the chairman of the ruling party that the start of the impeachment procedure from Georgian Dream is not caused by political disagreements and its real reason is the violation of the level that is incompatible with the position of the President of Georgia.
"I, as a judge, want to make sure that this [start of impeachment] is not caused by political revenge and political disagreement, but you believe that we are talking about a violation of the level that, if committed and legally confirmed, it may be unthinkable and incompatible with the office of the President of Georgia.
In addition, you gave an example yesterday that there was a case in Moldova when the Moldovan government was pro-European and the President was visiting Russia at that time. There was an incompatibility between the courses. In this case, the case is different - the declared course of the government is that it is pro-European, at the same time the President says that she wants to go on visits, she appeals to you to facilitate the implementation of this plan. It is also important that we have written this course in the Constitution, it seems that everything is clear. At this time, the facts are that there was no consent even the previous year, but she left and the impeachment was not initiated. When today it happens, what is so dangerous about these actions, what happened in terms of the result, which made you come here not out of political calculation, but out of extreme necessity. What is it that leads you to believe that this person, the President, is unworthy for office? When we make a decision, we rely on case materials, you tell us that last year there were facts that you did not give your consent, but she left, then impeachment was not initiated.
If all her political statements, all her steps were in unison, there would be no criticism, would she be forgiven for departing this time too?
I have the feeling that more evidence should be presented in the court so that we can really talk about the violation," said Manana Kobakhidze.
