04.10.23 14:20

The Constitutional Court will continue the oral hearing of the constitutional submission of the impeachment of President Salome Zurabishvili on October 4.

The process will resume at 11:00.

The consideration of the impeachment submission of President Salome Zurabishvili in the Constitutional Court of Georgia started at 12:00 yesterday.

The issue is considered by the plenum of 9 judges of the Constitutional Court.

The President was not present at yesterday's session. Lawyers Tamar Chugoshvili and Maia Kopaleishvili were defending her interests in court.

The Chairman of Georgian Dream Irakli Kobakhidze and other members of the ruling party: Anri Okhanashvili, Giorgi Kakhiani and Tengiz Sharmanashvili were present at the session as the authors of the submission.

The basis for the initiation of the impeachment process against Zurabishvili by the ruling team became the foreign visits made by her, to which the government had not given consent. The issue of impeachment of the President was decided at the meeting of the political council of the Georgian Dream party on September 1. The Constitutional Court has a one-month deadline to prepare its opinion. In case of a positive decision by the court, 100 deputies' votes are needed to dismiss the President, which the majority of Georgian Dream does not have.
