Shalva Papuashvili: The President's actions are a direct attack on the National Bank - when the President violates the Constitution, the result will not be beneficial to the Georgian people

When the president says that the National Bank makes Russian decisions, when she arrives there and her colleagues ask if it is really a Russian decision, what will she answer? - that yes, it is Russian decisions and but they should accept us in the European Union? Or no, it doesn't take Russian decisions, and that she is simply deceiving the Georgian society? - The Chairman of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, said.

According to him, the President's actions are an attack on the National Bank.

"Regarding the recent actions and statements of the President, it is difficult for me to say what is worse, the actions of the President or the attempt to justify it. One is worse than the other, it's a pity, this situation is a direct attack on the National Bank. Yesterday, we saw the President's statement regarding the two new members of the Board of the National Bank, and towards which the President seemed to have a certain, dismissive attitude. This is a direct attack on the acting members of the Board of the National Bank, here it seems that the constitutional framework is no longer valid for the President and, unfortunately, it seems that the human framework is no longer valid either. It is degrading to others when the President does not hesitate to say that she is using other people for institutional battles. The National Bank is an accountable body to the Parliament, therefore it is the duty of the Parliament, when it is attacked, to react to it. I call on the President to stop attacking the National Bank, trying to influence it and forcing the National Bank to make one or another decision based on its own opinion.

In general, the President shows by her actions that we are not a state, we do not act on the basis of the Constitution and laws. This is her attitude towards Georgia, it is a sign for our partners among them, that in our country it is not the Constitution and the law that is important, but the wishes of individual people. If a person believes that they have something higher than the Constitution, they are free to violate the Constitution and even publicly boast about it. With this message, when the President arrives in another country, what will that country think, what are we, what are our institutions, what does such a country have to do in the European Union at all, or any other union where there are other civilized countries. Therefore, her action is so wrong in its essence, what she says there is of no decisive importance. When the President violates the Constitution, the results and content of her actions will not be beneficial to the Georgian people," Papuashvili said.
