Matthew Bryza: Georgia must somehow return to the agenda of the US and our European allies

Georgia must somehow return to the agenda of the US and our European allies. Ultimately, the way to do this is to hold free and fair elections, - former US Department of State diplomat Matthew Bryza said in an interview with InterPressNews.

According to him, one of the best moments for Georgia in the last decade and a half was the 2012 elections - not because of who won or lost, but because of the fact that the defeated party left the government.

In response to a question of what he would advise the Georgian government to avoid escalation of situation in the so-called occupied territories, Matthew Bryza replied that the Georgian government was doing a good job, shedding light on Russia's illegal and provocative actions.

“However, the Georgian government should also manage that these issues remain on the agenda of Georgia and other countries, such as the United States. The problem, however, is that this will not be enough, as there is no sufficient attention to this issue any more.

Our failure to deter Russia or make it pay for invading Georgia or for what it is doing now paved the way for the events in Crimea and Donbass,” Bryza said.
