Shovi disaster-affected persons to receive psychological assistance

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili led an Executive Government Meeting at the Government Administration on Wednesday.

 

Members of the Cabinet of Ministers of Georgia considered 23 agenda items.

 

Draft Government Decree was among the topics of discussion and it was related to the individuals affected by the natural disaster, which took place in Shovi. According to the new regulation, family members of the deceased and missing as a result of the tragedy will get high-level assistance from psychologists.

 

Services offered to them by the Ministry of Health include consultations with a psychologist, sessions of psychotherapy and consultations with a psychiatrist if need be, as well as compensation for the cost of prescribed medication.

 

Referred services are financed by the State and are accessible at certified healthcare centers and institutions both in Tbilisi and regions of the country.

Members of the Government also reviewed a Draft Government Decree, according to which a National Day of Teachers will be established in the country.

 

According to the new initiative, October 27 of each year has been selected to highlight the role of teachers in society, to reward and elevate the significance of the profession of teachers as it coincides with the birthday of a celebrated Georgian teacher and founder of the scientific pedagogy in Georgia, publicist and author of children’s books, public figure Iacob Gogebashvili.

 

In connection with the preferred date, meritorious teachers will be awarded the National Teachers Award for their outstanding contribution to the development of the society and of the education system every year. It will be a specially designed medal and a monetary award in the amount of 10,000 GEL.

 

Government members also discussed a Draft Government Decree on the construction of a water reservoir for irrigation purposes on the Ilto River.

 

Based on the regulation, the state will carry out a Feasibility Study for the construction of the Ilto Reservoir. It will have historical significance. A feasibility study for the resumption of the construction along with a Due Diligence and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the Ilto Reservoir will be carried out.

 

During the irrigation season, the water deficit in the Alazni River basin will thus be regularly replenished and while water supply will be improved as well to cover the area of 40 000 hectares within the Lower and Upper Alazni irrigation system.
