The discussion at yesterday’s conference does not mean a change in NATO policy towards Georgia or a change in Georgia’s policy towards NATO, – stated the First Vice-Speaker of the Georgian parliament Tamar Chugoshvili today.

As Chugoshvili noted, officials did not participate in the discussion held yesterday, but the people who had serious knowledge and experience in this field.

“Participants considered various opportunities from the supportive standpoint on how Georgia could be closer to NATO membership and how it can become realistic when 20 percent of our territory is occupied, when Georgia is under constant pressure due this occupation. It was discussion over this issue and I don’t think thatthere is no cause for such concern”, – Tamar Chugoshvili said.

According to Vice-Speaker, discussion at the conference yesterday does not mean in any way a change in NATO policy towards Georgia or a change in Georgia’s policy towards NATO.

“Georgia’s policy and goal is to become the member of NATO within internationally recognized frameworks, with its territory entirely after overcoming some obstacles and NATO’s desire is this as well. Overcoming these obstacles is an issue of global politics.

It is acceptable for us that Georgia becomes a member of NATO with the whole territory, speculation on this issue is unnecessary and does not correspond to the interests of the country”, – Tamar Chugoshvili added.
