27.07.23 12:10

Rare diseases coordinating council approved national achondroplasia protocol.

Ivane Chkhaidze, the medical director of the Iashvili Central Children's Hospital, told journalists about this.

According to Chkhaidze, treatment of 5-6 children was determined at the first stage, and Iashvili Central Children's Hospital was selected for treatment.

"The protocol received a very high evaluation from a German expert, who directly noted that such a good, detailed and informative protocol regarding this disease does not exist in the world today. The medicine [vosoritide] has certain side effects that may require a doctor's supervision and even medical intervention, so one clinic was selected in Georgia, it is the Iashvili Children's Central Hospital. Implementation of this protocol and detailed study of patients requires a multi-disciplinary clinic, with the participation of at least 6-7 different specialists, which is provided in the Iashvili clinic.

The date has not been set yet, but in 2023 they will be involved in this process. At the first stage, 5-6 children were identified," Chkhaidze said.
