Givi Mikanadze: The information spread about the opening of the Georgian-Russian University is part of the campaign by which the radical opposition is trying to connect the government's activities with Russia, but this is nonsense

The information spread about the opening of the Georgian-Russian University is part of the campaign by which the radical opposition is trying to connect the government's activities with Russia, but this is nonsense, said Givi Mikanadze, a member of the parliamentary majority.

According to him, such a thing "can't even be discussed".

"Yesterday, the Ministry made a statement about this. You cannot show me any document that is currently being discussed. This is an attempt by the radical opposition and a number of television stations to provide the public with wrong information and create misconceptions. This is part of the campaign by which the radical opposition is trying to somehow connect the government's activities with Russia, but this is nonsense. The activity of the Georgian government is related to the national interests of the country and categorically excludes the circumvention of the sanctions imposed on Russia, and the government has confirmed this not only with words, but also with practical actions, and the high-ranking officials who have come to Georgia to monitor the enforcement of sanctions have publicly confirmed this," said Mikanadze.

For information, Dimitri Lortkifanidze, the head of the Primakov center, said that the construction of a Georgian-Russian university is planned in Tbilisi and they are already looking for a place for it.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia responded to the information by saying that no application had been submitted to the National Center for the Development of the Quality of Education of the State of Georgia with the request to open a Russian-Georgian school.

"The information spread in this regard is disinformation, which serves to mislead the public, to deliberately discredit the education system and the government," reads the statement.
