05.09.19 13:40

The President of Hungary will visit the occupation line today, - Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili said at a joint briefing held together with President of the Republic of Hungary János Áder.

As Zurabishvili noted, the Presidents of the two countries talked about the occupied territories of Georgia.

“The Hungarian President is paying a first visit to Georgia and at the same time, we are holding a reception at the renovated Presidential Palace for the first time. We are glad that both of these events coincided with each other. The first topic of discussion was the occupied territories, the situation on the occupation line, the tense summer we have passed and the need for the peaceful resolution of the conflict, which requires the involvement of all our partners. I thank our Hungarian friend for participating in the EU Monitoring Mission, which has 14 Hungarians representatives. We emphasized the need for this mission to be able to fulfill its full mandate, which means that it should be able to supervise the whole territory, which was enshrined in the 2008 agreement. All the issues and burdens faced by our citizens on any side of the occupation line today are our daily concern,” Salome Zourabichvili said.

According to her, we need to renew and strengthen the Geneva format in order to start a genuine political dialogue aimed at resolving this situation and removing the escalation.

“We appreciate Hungary's support for Georgia's territorial integrity in all its forms. Hungary supports all our resolutions on this issue and this is crucial. Mr. President will visit the occupation line and the observation mission today," Zourabichvili said.

The President of the Republic of Hungary is paying an official two-day visit to Tbilisi.
