The twelfth session of the Georgia-EU Parliamentary Association Committee was held in the European Parliament in Brussels. The relevant information was disseminated by the Parliament of Georgia. The session was chaired by co-chairs Maka Botchorishvili and Marina Kaljurand.

The meeting was attended by the permanent delegations of the Parliament of Georgia and the European Parliament, as well as representatives of the executive structures of Georgia, the Public Defender of Georgia and the institutions of the European Union.

Special emphasis was placed on the implementation of 12 recommendations of the European Union, and the MEPs received detailed information on the steps taken by Georgia in this direction. It was emphasized that the priority for the Georgian side remains to fulfill the recommendations of the European Commission in order to receive the candidate status in December.

"After the historic decision of the Council of the European Union, we expect that the European Union will take a firm step and grant Georgia the status of a candidate country this year, which will take Georgia to a new stage of relations with the European Union. It is important that in order to achieve this goal, the Georgian authorities are implementing the recommendations of the Council of the European Union, and at this stage we can say that most of the recommendations have already been implemented, Georgia has the potential to open new geopolitical opportunities and contribute to wider European security and prosperity. We expect that this year the European Union, based on fair assessments, will take a decisive step and grant candidate status to Georgia, which will encourage our progress on the European path together with other candidate countries. I hope the European Parliament will support this decision and today's work of our committee will lay the foundation for this positive dynamic," said Maka Botchorishvili.

The EU-Georgia Parliamentary Association Committee will hold next session in Tbilisi.

The parliamentary delegation was represented by Maka Botchorishvili, Levan Karumidze, Maia Bitadze, Khatia Tsilosani, Giorgi Chakvetadze, Eka Sefashvili, Herman Sabo and Ana Tsitlidze.
