Does the President not like Lasha Khutsishvili's name? Is there any problem with his competence?! - "He is competent, experienced, but I don't like him" - Well, we won't allow such an approach! - Georgian Dream MP Irakli Zarkua said in the parliament.
According to him, next week the Parliament will override the President's veto on the amendments to the law on the National Bank and "save the National Bank from Ms. Salome's sabotage".
As Zarkua noted, Lasha Khutsishvili, who was proposed to the President as a member of the National Bank Board, is a qualified person, whose budget was recognized as the most transparent and open budget during his tenure as the Minister of Finance.
"It is our declared policy to respect all the institutions, including the institution of the President. We have repeatedly proved that we respect Salome not because we love her - I personally don't - we simply respect the institution of the president, because it is important for everyone in this country to learn to respect the institution.
We are watching her sabotaging the country! First, it was the appointment of ambassadors. It was her constitutional authority to sign the nominated candidates. She did not sign it until we said that the issue would be considered by the Constitutional Court - then she signed and we withdrew the lawsuit.
The second topic was the appointment of the CEC chairman. We told her that the candidate was ideal, but she did not present it to the Parliament and wrote to us that she had no legal arguments, but her political decision was like that, that is, she probably did not like his face...
The culmination is the National Bank. The term of the acting president of the National Bank expires - then what should we do?! The country is in a difficult regional space. There was an agreement with the President that we would not override the veto on the amendments to the law on the National Bank and she would nominate candidates for the membership of the National Bank Board - she broke that too!", said Irakli Zarkua.
According to the statement of the Political Council of Georgian Dream, there are clear signs that the President of Georgia is purposefully obstructing the regular activities of the National Bank of Georgia with her actions.
As mentioned in the statement, “consultations between the ruling team and the President have already taken place, after which the President of Georgia confirmed her readiness to present the candidacy of Lasha Khutsishvili as one of the members of the board of the National Bank. During the consultations, specific dates were announced - February, March 8, etc. However, she violated all the agreed deadlines and she has not presented a candidate for membership of the board of the National Bank to the Parliament until now."
