Shalva Papuashvili calls on US Department of State to lift sanctions against judges as soon as possible

06.06.23 13:20

It's been 2 months now, we've been asking for the proof, but zero proof has been presented. The decision made without proofs is a political decision, therefore means nothing to us, - the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, said while talking about the sanctioning of Georgian judges by the US Department of State.

Shalva Papuashvili called on the US Department of State to lift sanctions as soon as possible.

"I call for these sanctions to be lifted as soon as possible, because one cannot attack a person without any proof, especially when it comes to the judge", said Shalva Papuashvili.

In addition, Shalva Papuashvili, while talking about the general situation in the judicial system, noted that Georgian justice passed all the tests with dignity.

"Our courts were discredited, but then we saw how all the high-profile cases ended in Strasbourg. Georgian justice passed all tests with dignity and absolutely all the allegedly politically-motivated cases turned out to be manipulation, disinformation and discredit campaign at the European Court of Human Rights," said Shalva Papuashvili.
