Intensive efforts were made to strengthen and deepen the strategic partnership with the United States of America, as the main ally of Georgia, including in the directions of de-occupation, the strengthening of the country's sovereignty and security, integration into NATO, as well as the strengthening of democratic institutions and the deepening of trade and economic cooperation, - reads the government's annual report covering the period from June 2022 to May 2023.
The government's report states that Washington pays special attention to the implementation of sanctions and restrictions against Russia and Belarus.
"In this regard, the US State Department's July 29, 2022 report on the Investment Climate in Georgia is worth noting, according to which, Georgia fully complies with the regime of financial sanctions and takes appropriate measures so that the territory of the country is not used to circumvent sanctions or restrictions. The US side positively evaluates Georgia's compliance with the sanctions regime.
We continue to work with the Office of the US Trade Representative, executive and legislative authorities, as well as business and expert groups to strengthen trade and economic relations between Georgia and the United States and to encourage investment from the United States, including to make progress on the initiation of negotiations on a free trade agreement", reads the report.
A clear confirmation of the strong bipartisan support by the US Congress was the US Consolidated Appropriations Act, which entered into force on December 29, 2022, which, already in its 8th year, contains important records in terms of strengthening the de-occupation and non-recognition of the regions of Georgia. It should be noted that the funding allocated to Georgia for the fiscal year 2022 is still at the highest level and amounts to 132,025,000 US dollars”, reads the document.
The government report also notes that the reporting period was full of bilateral high-level visits, which clearly reflects the growing trend of US strategic partnership with Georgia.
"In March 2023, the bipartisan Black Sea Security Act was initiated in the US Congress, which emphasizes the importance of this region in terms of the Euro-Atlantic space and global security, and calls on the US executive to develop an effective strategy for the Black Sea region. It is significant that the act indicates the necessity of deepening US-Georgia cooperation in the field of defense, security, politics and economy. In the same context, the US State Department, on the instructions of the Congress, began to develop the US Black Sea Strategy, for which, along with other countries of the region, Washington conducts active consultations with the Georgian side”, read the report.
The Prime Minister's annual report on the implementation of the government program has already been submitted to the Parliament. The report covers the period from June 2022 to May 2023. The Prime Minister of Georgia will personally present the report to the Parliament on June 30.
