SSG: The person who planned to sell radioactive material in Poti for 2,000,000 USD has been arrested

As a result of operational and search measures, the employees of the counter-intelligence department of the State Security Service, together with the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia, arrested one person on the fact of trying to sell radioactive substances illegally.

 

According to the State Security Service, the arrested person was planning to sell radioactive material in the city of Poti for 2,000,000 USD, when he was arrested.

 

"According to the conclusion of the radiological examination, the material presented at the examination, which was seized during the search, contains the radioactive substance uranium and belongs to the category of nuclear materials. The investigation is being conducted under the first part of Article 230 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which involves illegal handling of radioactive substances and provides for imprisonment for a period of 5 to 10 years.

 

The investigation is being conducted by the counter-intelligence department of the State Security Service," the information reads.
