There are too many attempts by the opponents, both inside and outside the country, to delay and block the granting of candidate status to Georgia - we will patiently and consistently continue to perform the work related to European integration, - Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Archil Talakvadze told journalists in Strasbourg, where will participate in the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

According to him, Georgia will be ready to present the results of the implementation of the European recommendations so that the European Union has a basis for making a political decision.

"The Government and the Parliament of Georgia are consistently working on the implementation of the European recommendations. Practically, there are two recommendations left, regarding which we still have work to do in the Parliament. We believe that Georgia will be ready to present the results of the implementation of the European recommendations so that the European Union has a basis for making a political decision that Georgia deserves.

The fact that Georgia has made real progress on the path to European integration has already been confirmed by the report prepared by the European Commission in previous months. Naturally, we will show even more progress in the coming months, so that any questions regarding the granting of candidate status to Georgia will be excluded.

The work that we will do is one important part, but on the other hand, the EU has to make a political decision taking into account the overall context. There are many attempts by the opponents, both inside and outside the country, to hinder and block the granting of candidate status to Georgia. Also, this is related to the next parliamentary elections, in connection with which the opposition directly expresses its concerns and "asks for help" from the European partners to somehow not give Georgia candidate status before the elections", said Archil Talakvadze.

As for the parliamentary session, according to Talakvadze, colleagues will be provided with information about ongoing reforms in Georgia.

"During the session, we will participate in the discussion of important decisions, and we will also use these days to meet our partners, exchange information with them, provide even more factual data on how reforms in Georgia are progressing in the direction of democracy, human rights and the rule of law. We are very interested in the positions of our partner countries and parliamentarians on the important issues related to the European security architecture, the war ongoing in Ukraine and the preparations underway for the Reykjavik summit.

There will be an important political discussion regarding the Strasbourg court, as well as the selection of judges. Also, there will be a discussion of issues related to the war in Ukraine. Naturally, there will be other topics that concern the whole of Europe, and Georgia is also part of this agenda. In general, at every session we have interesting information for our partners, and they naturally have an interest in Georgia, which is the most reliable partner of the West in the region, especially when there is such a situation in the region", said Archil Talakvadze.
