Central Election Commission and local observation organizations sign code of conduct

For the interim/extraordinary elections of April 29, 2023, the Georgian election administration and local observation organizations have signed a code of conduct (ethics). The Central Election Commission disseminated information about the above.

 

By signing the document, the Central Election Commission and local monitoring organizations agree that on April 29, they will conduct the midterm/extraordinary elections in accordance with Georgian legislation, internationally recognized election standards, and promote fair and transparent elections, respecting the principles of respect for human rights and basic freedoms.

 

The event was opened today by the Chairman of the Central Election Commission.

 

"Elections are a common affair, and therefore, strengthening cooperation with the parties involved in the elections is one of the priority directions for the election administration. Based on these approaches, today we signed the code of ethics, which was developed by the joint efforts of the Central Election Commission and non-governmental organizations. The purpose of the code is to improve the election environment and hold elections in a fair and transparent environment in accordance with internationally recognized principles", said Giorgi Kalandarishvili.

 

The representatives of the organizations that signed the document also spoke about the importance of observing the principles of the code of ethics. According to them, this type of agreement will significantly improve the election environment and help to conduct elections according to international standards.
