I don't know whether the statement of Vivamed necessarily implies the return of Mikheil Saakashvili to prison, maybe it is about transferring him to another civilian clinic, Public Defender Levan Ioseliani stated, responding to the statement made by the Vivamed clinic about Mikheil Saakashvili.
According to the Ombudsman, he does not want "such an action to be taken against Mikheil Saakashvili, which may aggravate or worsen his health condition".
"As for the statement of Vivamed clinic, I don't know whether the statement necessarily implies his return to prison or not, maybe it is about transferring him to another civilian clinic. As far as I know, the Public Defender stated that returning to the prison hospital could be dangerous for his health. According to my information, the members of the med council are of the same opinion. I share the position that the Public Defender had towards Mikheil Saakashvili. I don't want any type of action to be taken against him that could aggravate or worsen his health condition. Transfer to another civil clinic - as to where it will happen is not our prerogative, it can be discussed among them.
If returning to the penitentiary system will worsen his health condition, and according to my information, the members of the medical council, several of them, are of such opinion, of course, this should not happen. He should stay in a civil hospital. I don't plan to visit him again in the near future because I don't see the need to enter again. It is more important for people who monitor his health to enter.
Regarding the Polish doctors, I have no information about what is happening or what communication exists between the government and this group. I am in favor of allowing doctors from Poland or other countries, who are interested in his condition, to come and visit him," said Ioseliani.
According to him, the group of the Public Defender's medical council will have complete freedom regarding visiting Mikheil Saakashvili in clinic Vivamed, and the medical council plans to visit Saakashvili in the near future.
"The visit of [Mikheil Saakashvili's] lawyer was unplanned. I have the whole day planned and I am not able to meet him physically, but I have asked my staff and they will definitely meet him. A few days ago, I met Mikheil Saakashvili. Also, I met Giuli Alasania, I also talked to her at the Vivamed clinic. Also, the clinic Vivamed was requested and I asked them to send the documentation related to the health condition of Mikheil Saakashvili on time. We received this documentation on March 20 and sent the documentation to the medical council on the same day. Also, two days ago, I held a meeting with the members of the council and I confirmed to them once again my position that there will be no interference, on the contrary, they will have all kinds of support to continue their activities. As it is known, they are planning to visit Mikheil Saakashvili in the Vivamed clinic in the near future," Ioseliani said.
