The leader of Girchi - More Freedom, Zurab Japaridze, summarized the visit of three opposition parties (Droa, Girchi - More Freedom and Strategy Builder) to Brussels and Strasbourg and said that in a number of European Union structures, they have questions about Georgia’s position regarding the war in Ukraine.
As he explained at the press conference, the official structures cannot see the willingness of Georgian Dream to share the values of the European Union.
"There are two main areas of problems. One direction refers to the value part, this value part means that the official structures do not see that the Georgian Dream Government shares the values that are an important component of the European Union, it refers to the independence of the court, the desire to hold free and fair elections, the absence of political prisoners in the country, the existence of a free and pluralistic media environment in the country, as well as anti-Western propaganda on the part of Georgian Dream and its satellites. This was discussed at practically every meeting. The second part of the problem concerns the position of Georgia in relation to the war in Ukraine. A number of EU structures have questions about this. We also had meetings where we were openly told that they knew where Georgia was, saying that Georgia was not on the side of Ukraine," Japaridze said.
According to him, Brussels clearly sees the desire of the Georgian people for the country to become a full-fledged member of the civilized world, including the European Union and NATO.
"Also, it became quite clear to them that the Government of Georgia has a different position," said Japaridze.
As he mentioned, there is a need for the consolidation of the society and the change of the government.
"Ultimately, the solution lies in the change of government. We may make them give up a number of reforms under pressure, but the country's geopolitical positioning and anti-Western propaganda can be stopped only as a result of a change in the government," Japaridze said.
