The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party chair, Irakli Kobakhidze, on Sunday, said: “Georgia firmly supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and decries Russia’s military aggression in all international forums.”

Irakli Kobakhidze made this remark in Bilbao as he received the Sabino Arana Award for the deepening of the Georgian-Basque friendship, protection of democracy, and human rights.

The GD Chair went on to say that “in an effort to prevent an escalation and promote peace in the region, the Georgian government pursues a pragmatic policy.”

Kobakhidze stressed that today “Georgia is facing several fundamental challenges.”

“The Russian Federation occupies 20 per cent of our territories, and their peaceful de-occupation is one of the main national goals of my people.

In the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine, there was a danger that the military conflict could spread to Georgia, as well. Our government’s key goal was to avoid war which we successfully achieved,” he underscored.
